The UTAB Career Fair, held from March 11 to 13, was a remarkable event that brought together experts, industry leaders, and students for insightful discussions and networking opportunities in the field. The event kicked off with a warm welcome for international guests, including 4 experts from Germany and Ghana, who were transported from Kigali to Byumba. A gala dinner hosted by UTAB’s Vice Chancellor, Father Dr. Munana Gilbert, set the stage for collaboration, emphasizing the significance and importance of the NEWW Project for both sub-Saharan countries (Rwanda & Ghana) and the collective effort needed for success.
The following day (D-DAY) featured engaging presentations from distinguished experts. Zoomlion and Jakura Ventures shared their innovative approaches to waste management in Ghana, while German experts, including Prof. Dr. Ulrich Scheele and Mr. Egon Harms, discussed Germany’s strategies for water management in Germany. Additionally, Rwanda-based institutions such as WASAC, the Rwanda Water Board, and Urwibutso Enterprise contributed valuable insights into local water and environmental management practices. The afternoon session featured a dynamic panel discussion where participants engaged in thought-provoking exchanges, concluding with a Q&A session.
On March 13, some selected attendees visited the Nzove Water Treatment Plant, gaining first-hand exposure to Rwanda’s water purification processes, including filtration, chlorination, and control mechanisms. This field visit provided a practical perspective on the country’s water management infrastructure. The career fair concluded with the departure of guests between the 14th and 17th depending on every guest’s staying schedule in Rwanda, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge sharing for our students and staff and strengthening partnerships &Networking. The event successfully fostered meaningful collaborations and provided students with a valuable platform to interact with professionals in their respective fields. UTAB continues to demonstrate its commitment to research, innovation, and practical learning experiences for its students.
