From 16th to 18th of September 2024, the project partners gathered with researchers, experts and students in Kigali, Rwanda to conduct the first of three Summer Schools of the NEWW project.
On Day 1, the event kicked off with a greeting speech by the honorable Vice Chancellor of UTAB and a broad overview about the agenda of the Summer School. After that, the experts who traveled to Kigali from Byumba as well as Accra, Ghana presented their research and industry view on both the issues of water and waste management. With that information obtained, the participants were put into diverse groups to start working on Module ideas and potential curriculum for the NEWW Modules on the following days.
During Day 2, the groups developed their curriulum ideas in independent work phases, only interrupted by the all-important breaks for health and lunch. The results of this organized group work were then presented on the final day of the event. Additionally, Day 3 was used for an excursion to a WASAC water treatment plant, to deepen the project’s strong ties to the industry side of the topics of water and waste management.
All in all the first installment of the Summer School as part of the NEWW project was a big success, providing the project team with a lot of great input and experiences to build upon in future activities.
